SLFCU’s story began in 1948. Over seventy-five years ago, a small group of forward-thinking employees from Z division at Los Alamos National Laboratory came together to create our credit union so that their employees would have a more convenient way to cash their paychecks. What began as a humble cooperative has blossomed into a financial institution that has consistently adapted and grown, standing strong in the face of changing times and emerging technologies.
Today, SLFCU is a $3.6 billion dollar financial institution, serving more than 137,000 members nationwide and over 1,400 partner companies including many in the SS&TP. SLFCU has seven locations in Albuquerque; one location each in Rio Rancho, Edgewood, Los Lunas and Livermore, CA; and two locations in Farmington, NM for a total of 13 branches to date. We’re not just for Sandia National Laboratories employees anymore. Almost anybody can join our member-owned financial cooperative. In 2023, SLFCU was ranked as one of the top credit unions in New Mexico by Forbes for the sixth consecutive year, dating back to 2018 when the rankings began.
