News ItemKAFB Economic Impact Statement Completed

Aug 9, 2011 –

The FY2010 Economic Impact Statement provides information about the resources and economic impact of KAFB on the surrounding community. The local area, or Economic Impact Region, includes all counties within a 50-mile radius from the base center. The total value of KAFB’s annual economic impact is approximately $7.8 billion, of which the Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories is $3 billion and KAFB is $4.8 billion.

“The annual economic impact of Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) is huge. Of the total annual economic impact of $7.8 Billion, about $4.3 Billion is local, which means within 50 miles of the base. And those of us here in the Sandia Science & Technology Park are next door to this economic development engine. The recently completed Joint Land Use Study of KAFB states ‘Employment associated with KAFB is estimated to represent one of every 14 jobs in the State of New Mexico.’ There are no known institutions or employers in the region that could replace the beneficial economic impacts of KAFB,” said Stuart Purviance, Executive Director, Kirtland Partnership Committee.

The Economic Impact Statement is available on the KAFB Website at
