City’s New Director of Economic Development – EMCORE Corporation recently hosted a press conference for Mayor Richard J. Berry to announce the new Economic Development Director for the City of Albuquerque, Gary Oppedahl. Gary comes from the private sector where he has spent much of his career fostering start-ups, including MicroOptical Devices (later acquired by EMCORE) and TriLumina, both of which were built from research conducted at Sandia National Laboratories; Partnerships Success Story Video – Sandia produced a success story video about EMCORE, highlighting the vision of the company which is using Sandia technology to better the world. The story is told in the words of Sandia principal investigator, Jeff Nelson, and former Sandian and current EMCORE President and CEO, Hong Hou, who worked together to achieve a common goal. Visit http://www.sandia.gov/partnerships to view video. SS&TP Company Leadership Luncheon – Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union (SLFCU) hosted the most recent company leadership luncheon. It was an informal gathering for Park leaders to hear an overview of the SLFCU and have a discussion regarding security and safety in the Park. Applied Technology Associates (ATA) – The company announced the appointment of Dr. Neil McCasland as Director of Technology. Dr. McCasland most recently served as an Air Force Major General and has over 30 years of applied technology management in Air Force and other programs. He served as the Commander for the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. As the Director of Technology, Dr. McCasland will be responsible for technology identification and development across the range of ATA competencies and applications, and he will set the vision and strategy for technology development.
