Sandia Hosts City of Albuquerque (COA) – Sandia National Laboratories recently hosted the City’s Economic Development Department for a briefing by Sandia’s Industry Partnerships management team. The visit included Economic Development Director, Gary Oppedahl and Deputy Director, Deirdre Firth. Sandia provided an overview of technology transfer and economic development programs, including the SS&TP. This was followed by the City’s offer to make Sandia technologies additionally accessible via the City’s website; German Solar Group Visits SS&TP – Eight German solar companies took part in a two-state trade mission to Arizona and New Mexico. This included a plant tour of EMCORE Corporation at the SS&TP, and then the mission members were honored at a reception sponsored by the City of Albuquerque and Albuquerque Economic Development. The companies were part of a solar energy roundtable where Consul-General Klaus Guehlcke opened the meeting with a message of relationship building that encouraged creative partnering between the German and New Mexican firms. AEgis Uses Laser Lab to Conduct Testing – The AEgis Technologies Directed Energy team is deploying a new laser weapon system called the High-Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator. A follow on effort to the successful flight tests at White Sands in 2013, this project consists of integrating the AEgis high-energy laser system onto an unmanned aerial vehicle to test the laser. The team has been working to build a system that can provide laser characterization and lethality data, as well as atmospheric data for airborne targets. The Laser Lab, at the SS&TP, has been the center of R&D efforts.
