SS&TP Company Leadership & Partner Picnic – The annual picnic was recently held at Ted Hobbs Park. It was an informal gathering over BBQ to acknowledge SS&TP leaders and community partners for their ongoing leadership and support of the Park. In addition, it was an opportunity for everyone to network with each other and meet new companies who have recently moved into the SS&TP. The picnic was sponsored by the Sandia Science & Technology Park Development Corporation.
Manufacturing Day at the SS&TP – Applied Technology Associates, QC Group, and TEAM Technologies, companies located in the SS&TP, hosted a private tour of their facilities for 50 enthusiastic students from the Technology Leadership High School, also located in the Park. These companies participated in “Manufacturing Day”, sponsored by the New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership (New Mexico MEP). The purpose of this annual event is to highlight manufacturing, local companies, and the people working in the manufacturing industry. It’s a nationwide push to enhance public knowledge of the value of manufacturing to our economy.
Workplace Violence and Active Shooter Preparedness – Innovative Reasoning, a company in the SS&TP, has developed a seminar to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to formulate plans to prevent and/or minimize the impacts of workplace violence incidents. The program explores the nature of these incidents and offers guidance on recognizing threats, preparing the workforce, and building a robust recovery plan. Sandia Participates in Rise of the Rest – On October 6, Sandia convened a roundtable luncheon at Bow & Arrow Brewing Company with Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and chairman and CEO of Revolution, an investment fund. The purpose of the luncheon was to introduce Steve to Sandia entrepreneurs. Sandians Melissa Finley, Jeff Nelson, and Susan Rempe talked about their technologies developed at the Labs. Former Sandian Murat Okandan, Founder of mPower Technology, shared his start-up company experiences. Also in attendance were Dave Meurer, President and CEO of Armed Response Team, and Mike Pelock, General Manager of MCAD Technologies, a company located in the SS&TP. U.S. Senator Tom Udall attended the event and provided remarks as well.
Innovate New Mexico Technology Showcase – This collaborative event was held on October 11 at the Sandia Golf Club to highlight research and technology opportunities, start-up companies, and economic development resources from the leading research institutions in the state of New Mexico. Several technology presentations were made including Sandians Jeff Nelson on Next-Generation Energy via Advanced Membrane Technologies and Laura Biedermann on Low-Energy, Chlorine-Tolerant Desalination Membranes. Former Sandian Murat Okandan, Founder of mPower Technology, participated on a panel with other start-up companies.
