2nd Annual Sandia Research & Technology Showcase – The Showcase was held at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque on September 10 and attracted nearly 400 people. The event featured presentations and panel discussions about the cutting-edge research and technology development taking place at Sandia and provided valuable information to industry and academic partners on doing business with the Labs. There were more than 40 Sandia researchers, scientists, and business development team members at the poster session and booths to answer questions. To view the posters focused on Bioscience, Computing & Information Science, Energy & Climate, and Nanodevices & Microsystems, visit www.sstp.org/showcase; SS&TP Road Improvements – Sandia and the City of Albuquerque recently worked together to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in the SS&TP, specifically on Innovation Parkway. The improvements included over 12,000 linear feet of road striping, installation of 18 additional speed limit signs, and 12 bike-man symbols to identify bicycle lanes on the street; EMCORE Corporation – The Association of University Research Parks (AURP) 2013 Innovation Award was presented to EMCORE, a company located in the SS&TP. They were recognized for the success of their high-efficiency multijunction solar cells for satellite and space power applications. These industry-leading products have helped EMCORE grow and expand. EMCORE licensed some background intellectual properties related to multi-junction solar cells from Sandia, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. AURP is a professional association of university related research and science parks and its mission is to foster innovation, commercialization, and economic growth through university, industry, and government partnerships; and Air Products and Chemicals – Brian Crowe was promoted to Manufacturing Manager and appointed as the primary lead contact for the company in Albuquerque. He will have a significant impact on the Air Products PolyFlow group located in the SS&TP. Brian began his career with Air Products in 1995 after 11 years in the U.S. Navy. Most recently, Brian was the Megasys Site Manager for customer sites in AZ and NM.
